It may be therapeutic for you, and who knows, you may connect with fellow GA NP's that are in a similar situation. I am a WI FNP and am also under the collaborative agreement regulation here. However, all the law states is that I have to have one. It does not state what is actually in the CA or have a "preprinted" copy on the books. As far as state law goes, I think that Wisconsin is about the best place I have practiced, other than Michigan.

I commend you for wanting to stay in Georgia, which I am afraid that I would not touch with a 10 foot pole due to all the political hoops. The short answer to most of your "red" questions is politics and stroking egos. Unfortunately for us, much of our practice is determined in state capitols instead of by our nurses' associations, and in doing so, we may at times need to get concessions in order to get a bill or regulation to pass. Of course the greedy docs are having territorial issues with NP's. They might just lose money in their practice due to competition. I don't see how that applies in your case, though. Sounds as if the area docs don't want to rock the boat. It's too bad not only for you, but for your patients who are suffering the most.

My other recommendation is if you are not a GNA/ANA member or an AANP member, I would get on board as a member with both. Both organizations lobby hard and go to battle with the special interests for the benefit of NP's. Your dues are well worth what you get out of the organization in legislative efforts, networking, and speaking out with one voice.

I will try to follow your blog now that I know you are here. Good luck from a fellow NP!
